Dr. McKenna's special interests include complicated urologic reconstruction, Wilm's Tumor, antenatally-detected urologic problems, disorders of sexual development and minimally-invasive treatments. His innovative use of computer games and conservative, noninvasive approach to managing pediatric urinary incontinence and urinary tract infections have been widely adopted nationwide.


Dr. McKenna is a Specialty Diplomat of the American Board of Urology, chair-elect of American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Urology, president–elect of the North Central Section of the American Urology Association, and Health Policy Committee chair of the Society of University Urologist and American and American Academy of Pediatrics. He also has a career interest in quality improvement and currently serves as chair of the Department of Urology's Quality Improvement Committee.
