Nicholas Pytel, DO

Nicholas Pytel, DO, is a UW Health Kids hematology and oncology doctor. Dr. Pytel cares for children with newly diagnosed cancers and blood disorders. He’s also an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Division of Hematology, Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant.

Dr. Pytel specializes in treating children with brain and spine tumors. He coordinates their care plans, including what type of chemotherapy, targeted drugs or immunotherapy they may need to fight their tumors.

With compassion and empathy, Dr. Pytel teaches families about their child’s diagnosis, listens to their concerns and answers questions. He outlines treatment options and involves the family in decision-making as they discuss the best path for the child’s care.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Pytel researches new treatments for pediatric tumors. He serves as the principal investigator for clinical trials that involve children with tumors called medulloblastomas and gliomas. He also works to improve the quality of life for children fighting tumors.

During his free time, Dr. Pytel enjoys spending outdoor time with his own family, biking and hiking.
