Nathan Sandbo, MD

Nathan Sandbo, MD, is a UW Health pulmonologist and critical care doctor and an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Sandbo diagnoses and treats disorders of the lungs and respiratory system. He cares for patients with interstitial lung disease, a group of chronic disorders that make breathing difficult due to inflammation, scarring and stiffness of the lungs. One of those disorders is called pulmonary fibrosis.

During initial visits, Dr. Sandbo reviews his patients’ medical history in depth. He invites patients to talk openly about their concerns and how their symptoms impact their daily life. To ease anxiety, Dr. Sandbo provides detailed information about their condition and potential treatment options. His goal is to create personalized treatment plans that address his patients’ unique needs so they can feel better and live the highest quality of life possible.

To improve patient care, he conducts laboratory research to better understand exactly what causes pulmonary fibrosis and to develop new tools to diagnose and treat the disease.

During his free time, Dr. Sandbo enjoys fishing.
