Michael Kessler, MD

Michael Kessler, MD, is an infectious disease doctor at UW Health.

Dr. Kessler provides preventive care and advanced treatment for all types of infections, ranging from minor or chronic infections that impact the patient’s quality of life, to life-threatening infections, including those that affect the heart valves or brain.

He also participates in antimicrobial stewardship. This practice ensures that patients receive the most appropriate antibiotics to treat their conditions while reducing unnecessary antibiotic exposure and potentially harmful side effects.

Understanding that successful outcomes depend on transparency and teamwork, Dr. Kessler partners with patients and their loved ones to provide exceptional care. He believes it’s a privilege to develop meaningful relationships with his patients so that they can navigate the challenges of their disease together.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Kessler is an assistant clinical professor in the Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine. He collaborates with the UW Health Infection Control Committee to help prevent patients and providers from catching infections.  He specializes in epidemiology and outbreak investigation and preventing infections associated with invasive devices.

In his free time, Dr. Kessler enjoys spending quality time with his wonderful wife and two daughters.
