Mark Benson, MD

About

Mark Benson, MD, is a gastroenterologist at UW Health. He performs endoscopy procedures on patients with diseases of the biliary system (involving the pancreas, bile ducts and gallbladder).

As an advanced endoscopist, Dr. Benson is highly trained in a variety of techniques, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, double balloon enterology, endoscopic mucosal resection, endoscopic ultrasound and HALO radiofrequency ablation. He also performs colonoscopies and polyp removals for patients with unique needs.

Dr. Benson uses a patient-centered approach to care. He builds a relationship with each patient based on trust, understanding that some discussions regarding symptoms or procedures can be uncomfortable. He also educates patients about their condition and procedure, addresses questions and concerns and uses compassion in all of his interactions.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Benson is an associate professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology within the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is an active researcher and serves as the Director of Endoscopic Quality at UW Health.

In his free time, Dr. Benson is an avid fly fisherman and enjoys woodworking.

As the Director of Endoscopy Quality, I ensure all of the colonoscopy providers at UW Health meet clinical benchmarks in order to provide the best care to our patients.
