About

Luis Lomeli, MD, is a gastroenterologist at UW Health.

Dr. Lomeli specializes in diagnosing and treating patients who have trouble swallowing because of an esophageal disorder. The esophagus is the muscular tube that carries food and liquid from the mouth to the stomach. Dr. Lomeli helps people who have a narrowed esophagus or dysfunction in the way the esophagus works.

With so many options for treating esophageal conditions — diet, medications and an array of therapies — Dr. Lomeli is committed to partnering with his patients to determine the care plan that best suits their individual needs. He listens closely to their experiences and works to educate them about their condition and treatment options.

In addition to his work in the clinic, Dr. Lomeli is an assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine where he also conducts research on esophageal disorders. His research primarily focuses on preventing complications from eosinophilic esophagitis, which is a chronic allergic condition that leads to narrowing of the esophagus and trouble swallowing.

Outside of work, Dr. Lomeli enjoys gardening. He finds the hobby relaxing and is currently growing over 20 plants in his basement.

I find it rewarding to form relationships with my patients and make a positive impact on their lives.
