About

Kerstin “Kerri” Austin, MD, is a UW Health gastroenterologist and assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology within the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where she also serves as Associate Director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Austin diagnoses and treats a wide range of digestive conditions, including inflammatory bowel diseases such as colitis and Crohn's disease and short bowel syndrome. She has a special clinical interest in nutrition-related diseases and intestinal failure.

Dr. Austin offers patient-centered care and believes that careful listening provides the most accurate clues for diagnosis. Because she knows that patient education goes a long way in disease prevention and progression, she explains each condition and uses shared decision-making to determine the best treatment options to meet her patients’ needs.

Dr. Austin says building long-term relationships with her patients is what she enjoys most about her work. She wants to get to know her patients as complete people, not just their medical conditions, to help them live their healthiest lives.

Outside of work, Dr. Austin enjoys hiking, traveling and spending time with family.

My hope for all my patients is that they can live their lives without their daily activities being dictated by chronic disease.
