About

Joanna Ruchala, MD, is a UW Health internal medicine doctor and an associate clinical professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Ruchala provides primary and preventive care for adults.

As an internist, Dr. Ruchala treats a range of chronic health issues, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. She has a special interest in women's health and preventive care and offers annual physicals and health screenings.

Dr. Ruchala’s goal is to help patients maintain strong physical and mental health. She counsels patients on healthy habits and gives them tools to manage health conditions in order to lead happy, productive lives.

Dr. Ruchala believes patient care starts with listening closely to each patient’s concerns. She also takes time to educate her patients about their diagnoses and treatment options so they can make informed decisions. Together, they create a care plan the patient is willing and able to follow.

In her free time, Dr. Ruchala enjoys playing tennis, hiking, biking, camping and playing the flute.

I want my patients to see me as an advocate and support person who they can turn to for medical advice and guidance.
