Dr. Hummel specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias (electrical abnormalities of the heart). He earned his degree from the Temple University School of Medicine. He subsequently completed internship and residency at the Yale-New Haven Hospital followed by fellowships in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. Prior to joining the University Hospital Dr. Hummel served as faculty at the University of Virginia and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His practice includes minimally-invasive catheter procedures for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias as well as implantation and management of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators. His research interests are geared towards better understanding of mechanisms and development of treatment strategies for atrial fibrillation.
