Dr. Gentile is a clinical health psychologist with specialization in gastrointestinal and digestive disorders, cancer, chronic pain conditions, and dietary and weight-related issues. She provides outpatient health psychology services, including individual and group therapy, pre-surgical evaluations, pre and post-surgical counseling, and consultation. Dr. Gentile has received advanced training in the areas of gastroenterology and neurogastroenterology, oncology, and cardiac rehabilitation. She has experience working with adolescents and adults.
Dr. Gentile also holds a background in nutrition, which provides a unique perspective in understanding the role of nutrition on emotional and psychological health. She has participated in celiac disease education and advocacy with Beyond Celiac (formerly National Foundation for Celiac Awareness), where she published educational topics relating to celiac disease, mental health, and nutrition, as well as provided interactive webinars for the celiac disease community.
Dr. Gentile utilizes a biopsychosocial model, emphasizing the influence of medical and psychological factors, when working with patients to enhance whole-person wellness. Her treatment approach is influenced by acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive-behavioral approaches. Clinical interventions may include biofeedback, relaxation training, mindfulness (e.g., stress reduction, eating behaviors, chronic medical symptoms), self-compassion, coping skills enhancement, and health behavior change.
