Staff Spotlight: Kayla Prosser

Kayla hails from Columbus, WI where she and her younger brother were proud Columbus Cardinals. Kayla played basketball and soccer in high school. Kayla continued playing soccer at Marian College in Fond du Lac, WI. She majored in Exercise & Sports Science receiving a Bachelor’s degree in 2016.

In addition to teaching Swim 101, Kayla teaches Intro to Masters Swim (a natural transition class between Swim 101 and Masters Swim) as well as the Tues/Thurs evening Masters Swim class here. Kayla has a great affection for this class and its dedicated participants. Although these participants represent a variety of swimming abilities and experience, they share a common positive attitude toward striving to improve and having fun.

UW Health Fitness Center Instructor Kayla ProsserKayla started here as a lifeguard and continues to do 3-4 guarding shifts a week. It is a true asset to the Aquatic Center to have instructors who are also certified lifeguards.

Professionally, Kayla aspires to go to graduate school to study Occupational Therapy. As an undergraduate she was bitten by the “OT bug” during an enlightening student practicum experience focusing on workplace rehabilitation.

It is possible that Kayla may start this process as early as January 2019. When this happens the field of Occupational Therapy will add a gifted instructor and leader to its ranks.

A Q&A with Kayla

Why Did You Choose This Profession?

I have been a lifeguard since I was 16, so this job offered me the opportunity the continue that as well as to begin to work in field related to my degree. Also, it is fun to watch the therapists interact with patients to get a feel of what my future will look like.

What Do You Like About Working Here?

THE PEOPLE!!! I have gotten to know some of the best people and their stories over the past two years in both my classes and in lifeguarding. They are what keep me wanting to come into work every day and truly make it enjoyable while I’m here.
