Staff Spotlight: Kate Hemesath
The Aquatic Center is an essential department of our facility. With dozens of aquatics classes, hundreds of unique participants and a constantly evolving format, our pools represent a vibrant sector of our facility with plenty of managerial challenges.
We are pleased to introduce Kate Hemesath as the new Aquatic Center Fitness Supervisor overseeing our swim programs, lifeguarding, and pool management.
In this busy role, Kate will recruit, hire, train, and supervise our pool lifeguards. In addition she will supervise the Masters Swim classes (as well as teaching a couple herself), the Swim 101 (Adult Beginners Swim) class and any future swim classes here. Kate will also oversee our popular swim lessons program, including providing swim stroke filming and stroke analysis.
If this sounds like a full plate – well, it is! But we’re excited to have Kate at the helm while these successful programs continue to grow and thrive.
Kate was born and raised in Dubuque, IA. In high school she developed a passion for running. Excelling in cross country and track, Kate caught the competitive racing “bug.” Kate continued running at Loras College where she earned degrees in Sports Science and Psychology.
After college Kate worked 3 years as an exercise specialist at the Midwest Medical Center in Galena, IL. She moved to Madison in 2015 to work as a personal trainer and teach swim classes. As it works out, our swim programs coordinator (Kat Caufield) resigned this spring to return to school. Kate is now an important member of our Fitness Center team.
Kate is a very active person with a great fondness for the outdoors. She continues to run competitively and is a dedicated strength trainer. Her outdoor hobbies include hiking, paddle boarding and kayaking. It’s easy to see why Devil’s Lake is one of her favorite places!
Aside from her physical adventures, Kate enjoys cooking and making charcoal drawings.
We’re excited to have Kate on our team and hope you get to meet her soon. Now, let’s hear a bit from Kate:
