Erin Hammer, MD

About

Erin Hammer, MD, is a sports medicine doctor at UW Health and is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She cares for children, teens and adults who have joint, muscle, and tendon problems or have medical issues that keep them from being active. Dr. Hammer has a special interest in women’s sports medicine, concussions and medical problems in endurance athletes.

Her patient care philosophy is that every patient is an athlete, and exercise is medicine. She enjoys helping patients get back to the things they like to do, whether it’s a competitive sport or playing with their grandchildren.

Dr. Hammer is a team doctor for the University of Wisconsin Badgers football and wrestling teams. She also travels with the U.S. ski team each winter for races and the World Cup. In her research, she studies ways to prevent sports injuries, including concussions, and evaluates athletes at risk.

In her personal time, Dr. Hammer enjoys cross-country skiing, road biking, and running.

My hope for each one of my patients is that they can return to the activities they love. That's why they're coming to see me. And so if I can help them achieve their goals, that's my goal, too.
