Emma Mohr, MD, PhD, is a pediatric infectious disease doctor and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Division of Infectious Diseases. She provides care for children with complex infections, particularly those affecting the bones, brain and stomach. Dr. Mohr has specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating congenital infections (those present at birth) like Zika virus and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Dr. Mohr approaches care in a collaborative way — ensuring that her patients and their families feel heard and that she’s working together with them to develop a care plan that’s best for everyone. She takes great satisfaction in knowing that her specialty is one area of medicine where cures are possible. Dr. Mohr was drawn to medicine by an early fascination with disease spread and outbreaks. This curiosity drove her to complete physician-scientist training, which she uses in her own laboratory to study CMV and Zika virus. Dr. Mohr now leads a program for others pursuing the physician-scientist pathway. In her free time, Dr. Mohr enjoys spending time with family, biking, swimming and running.  One of my hopes is that I'm able to develop a treatment plan to make the child all better so that they don't need to see me anymore. It's great when I can say, ‘I've loved taking care of you, I wish you the best, and you don't need to come back and see me anymore.’
