Elizabeth Salisbury-Afshar, MD, MPH provides inpatient care at University Hospital and is an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. In her role, she treats people involved in the criminal legal system living with substance use disorders, including opioid use and alcohol use disorders. She holds board certifications in addiction medicine, family medicine, and public health and general preventive medicine.
Dr. Salisbury-Afshar believes in treating all patients with dignity and respect. She recognizes that health outcomes are largely a result of the environments and circumstances people face in their lives.
Her research focuses on improving access to care for people incarcerated or on court supervision. She also looks at ways to integrate behavioral health treatments into primary health care settings.
