About

Carrie Schwoerer, PT, is a physical therapist at UW Health. She sees patients in the Spine Physical Therapy Clinic, Pelvic Floor Disorders Physical Therapy Clinic and the Women’s Pelvic Wellness Clinic.

Carrie treats muscle, bone and joint issues in the spine, jaw and extremities, as well as muscle dysfunction in the pelvic floor, which can cause conditions such as incontinence, constipation and pain. Carrie has experience treating pelvic floor dysfunction following cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as after gender affirmation surgery. She also treats patients with certain orthopedic conditions and myofascial pain syndrome (which causes specific muscle pain) using a technique called dry needling to relax “knotted-up” muscles.

Growing up, Carrie underwent physical therapy with a therapist who worked to resolve her physical challenges and enhance her self-esteem. This experience inspired her to become a physical therapist herself, so she can help her patients in the same meaningful way. Carrie listens to each patient’s unique story and collaborates with them to create personalized goals.

In addition to treating patients, Carrie has a passion for education. She serves as the director of the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency at University Hospital and UnityPoint Health – Meriter. She also loves mentoring her fellow team members every opportunity she gets.
