Steps to building a great skin care routine

Creating good habits of cleansing is the number one start to your skin care regimen.

Cleansing at night helps stimulate exfoliation, remove the days impurities and remove makeup, plus your pores will love you!

Cleansing

Choose a cleanser with the right ingredients for your skin type:

  • Sensitive Skin – Fragrance free, hypoallergenic and hydrating (commonly in a creamy form)

  • Acne Prone Skin – Salicylic, benzol peroxide and sulfur (commonly in a gel form and clear in color)

  • Dry Skin – Hyaluronic, glycerin’s and lactic (commonly in a creamy form and white in color)

  • Oily Skin – Salicylic, lactic and glycolic acids (commonly in gel form and clear in color)

  • Aging Skin – Glycolic lactic, salicylic and hydrating (commonly in a creamy form and white in color)

Treating

Choose the appropriate treatment for your skin care concerns:

Correction

Vitamin C is great for helping correct pigment, addressing fine lines and brightening overall skin tone. Our most popular product with Vitamin C is SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic. We carry several formulations with Vitamin C for different skin types and skin concerns.

Brightening

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) such as lactic, glycolic or azelaic acid are ingredients used in chemical peels and at home products. We recommend chemical peels such as our Micropeel or Pigment Balancing Peel.

Exfoliating

Manual scrubs with retinols and salicylic acids used in the shower is a great way to exfoliate. We recommend our SkinCeuticals Micro Exfoliating Scrub, which can be used in the shower, for use between chemical peel treatments.

SkinMedica Retinols come in different strengths and are used during your PM routine. Topical Retinols are great products that help with exfoliating, cell turnover, fine lines and wrinkles.

Hydrating

Use products with hyaluronic acid, squalene oil and B5 gels. We recommend our HA5 from Skin Medica or our B5 gel from SkinCeuticals, both amazing products to bring back hydration during a cold winter.

Medicated Topicals

Tretinoins and or hydroquinone are usually used in a PM routine. These will help with hyperpigmentation, melasma or post hyperpigmented spots from acne and help accelerate cell turnover while sleeping.

Protect

That Beautiful skin of yours!

Moisturizing will help by laying a protective barrier over the skin and should be applied after your treatment products. Moisturizer is a hydrating treatment to keep a healthy PH balance in your skin.

  • Normal/Dry Skin – Use creamy hydration such as our TNS Ceramide Moisturizer from SkinMedica or Tolerance Cream from Avene.

  • Combination/Oily Skin – Use gels or light formulations of moisture, we recommend our Ultra Sheer from SkinMedica or Hydrance from Avene.

Prevent through sun protection

You should consider this the most important step!

Physical/mineral SPF’s such as our Glytone Hydra Lipid UV Protection can be used as moisturizer and SPF in one product, and it leaves a hydrating finish. Or use Revision Tinted Moisturizer with SPF from acclimates for any skin tone, which leaves a matte or dewy finish. Broad Spectrum such as our OBAGI Sun Shield Matte is great in the summer or for normal to oily skin types.
