Barb's Colonoscopy Experience

Barb Tolli shared her perspective following her colonoscopy procedure at UW Health's Digestive Health Center.

I have to admit that after reading the prep instructions, I could have talked myself out of having this procedure.

I followed through with the instructions and chose the MoviPrep solution. It had a thick syrup consistency. In hindsight it was not what I had expected and I probably should have chosen the other prep liquid, since it can be mixed with a little flavoring. The night did not go as poorly as I expected. I was able to sleep for a few hours before starting the second dose.

My experience at the Digestive Health Center the next day was much more pleasant than I expected. I was tired, cranky and do not like to go without food, but everyone was pleasant and professional. They answered all my questions and informed me of everything that was either happening or going to happen.

I could not have asked for a better team. I met the doctor for a brief couple of minutes to explain the procedure. Then I was wheeled in, told to lay on my side and asked if I liked country and western music. It was playing in the background because it is what Dr. Kennedy likes.

That is all I remember until I woke up in the recovery room with my husband holding my hand. I have had no pain, discomfort, discharge or soreness. Outside of remembering the prep solution, I could not even tell I had a procedure done.

I would like to say thank you to my team at the Digestive Health Center on University Row for a most pleasant experience from the moment I walked in the door, considering the circumstances.
