Susan M. Ertl, MSN, RN
Vice President, Regional System Integration
As Vice President for UW Health Regional System Integration, Sue Ertl is responsible for the successful clinical integration of UW Health and its regional partners. Her current focus is on SwedishAmerican Health System (SAHS), a division of UW Health since a merger of the two systems in January 2015. Headquartered in Rockford, Ill., SAHS comprises two hospitals, 30 primary care and specialty clinics, a home health care agency, the SAHS Regional Cancer Center and more than 130 employed providers.
Sue has enjoyed a 20-year career at UW Health, during which she has demonstrated expertise in clinic management, practice redesign and new program development. From 2011-14, she served UW Health as Vice President for Clinical Joint Ventures, responsible for the operations of the Madison Surgery Center, Generations Fertility Center, Transformations Surgery Center, and Wisconsin Sleep. She also led the start-up and had early operational responsibility for the UW Health Digestive Health Center. Most recently, she provided leadership in the enterprise-wide redesign of UW Health Behavioral Health Services.
Prior to her role in Clinical Joint Ventures, Sue served as UWMF Vice President for Quality and was instrumental in the integration of quality improvement efforts within a single UW Health department. She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from UW-Madison and a master’s degree in nursing administration from Edgewood College.
