Betsy Clough, UW Health Leadership

In her role as Vice President, Performance Excellence, Betsy oversees UW Health's Quality and Safety Improvement and its Clinical Knowledge Management Center, Patient Experience and Patient Relations.


She has been with UW Health since July 2013, previously serving as Director of Quality, Safety and Innovation. Prior to joining UW Health, Betsy served as Director of Quality and as an executive consultant on quality at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. There she directed quality infrastructure development and provided leadership on a variety of complex, strategic organizational projects to support delivery system changes.


Betsy is passionate about quality and safety and how improvement methods and programs can enhance patient care. She has been involved with the Wisconsin Collaborative for Health Care Quality (WCHQ) from its inception, serving as its Director of Operations from 2005-07. She was integrally involved in the development of performance measure specifications and the design of processes for data submission, audit, validation and reporting. She also oversaw the development of infrastructure to support WCHQ's growth from nine reporting members to more than 20.


Betsy has completed the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Improvement Advisor Program, a professional development program that helps leaders identify, plan, and execute improvement projects, deliver successful results and spread changes throughout an entire health system. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from UW-La Crosse and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota.
