The Learning Kitchen

The Learning Kitchen has classes that teach you how to make healthy, delicious food.

UW Health at The American Center is a unique health and wellness facility on the east side of Madison that features a Learning Kitchen, where our gourmet chef and registered dietitian, Julie Andrews, hosts a variety of cooking classes.


The Learning Kitchen


The Learning Kitchen at UW Health at The American Center is a fully-equipped classroom kitchen that is led by culinary and health care professionals who offer a wide variety of cooking classes for our community and our patients.

Our Program Coordinator


Julie Andrews is coordinating all activities related to the Learning Kitchen. She's uniquely qualified for the task, as she is a nationally-accredited registered dietitian and Wisconsin state-certified dietitian with a graduate degree in Human Nutrition and formal training in Culinary Arts. Julie enjoys teaching others how to select and cook foods that are nutritious and taste great.


Our Cooking Classes

Class participants prepare three to five dishes and can take leftovers home.


Our Facility


The Learning Kitchen includes:

  • Fully equipped kitchen, with a four-top gas range with flattop and oven, refrigerator, microwave oven and a full set of cooking supplies
  • Three flat-screen monitors mounted above the demonstration area, providing attendees close viewing opportunities for both the cooking surfaces and preparation areas.
  • Space for 50 attendees for cooking demonstrations and space for 20 attendees for hands-on activities.
