Our Team and Their Roles

We use a multidisciplinary approach to care for patients seeking to lose weight through medical or surgical means.

Health Psychologist: Health psychology is a specialty area that focuses on how biological, social and psychological factors influence health and illness. Our health psychologists provide evaluation and education with a focus on behavior change interventions for persons both before and after bariatric surgery, ensuring patients to make the lifestyle changes necessary to achieve and maintain their weight loss.

Registered Dietitian: A registered dietitian (RD) is a food and nutrition expert who evaluates a person’s nutritional intake and relationship with food, then assists patients in establishing a healthy approach to eating and a lifestyle that supports weight loss as well as weight loss maintenance with bariatric surgery.

Nurse Practitioner: A nurse practitioner helps patients to bridge the gap between the clinic and hospital, address their concerns before and after surgery and help to find a balance in their health and wellness as a bariatric surgery patient. NPs make overall wellness and patient education priorities.

Surgeon: The surgeon oversees the patient’s care and performs the surgery. He will discuss the risks and benefits of each of the procedures and answer any questions related to these procedures. The patient will meet the surgeon early on in the process and he will be available after surgery.

Program/Medical Assistant: This dedicated staff helps the clinic and program run smoothly. They answer questions, take messages, schedule appointments and help with additional tests or procedures the patient may need. They help patients get ready for provider appointments, work with insurance plans and assist in coordinating surgery date and related appointments.

Program/Clinic Manager: A registered nurse manages the Bariatric Clinic operations and resources, oversees program development and workflow and is responsible for clinic staff and overall patient experience.
