Regional Cancer Center Network

The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, the only comprehensive cancer center in the state, has outreach clinics, affiliations and partnerships throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.
 
Oncology Outreach
 
Both our Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology programs bring the expertise of their faculty to regional facilities and also brings patients to the cancer center.

Children's Oncology Group (COG)
 
COG is a National Cancer Institute-supported clinical trials cooperative group devoted to cancer research. The Carbone Cancer Center extends the ability to participate in COG clinical trials to:

Regional Affiliates
 
The Carbone Cancer Center has established alliances with several community cancer centers that extend its quality patient care and access to clinical trials. Consistent quality assurance is maintained through oversight provided by Carbone Cancer Center physicians - all with the convenience of remaining close to home.

Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG)
 
ECOG, through National Cancer Institute funding, conducts nationwide clinical trials in all types of cancer. The Carbone Cancer Center extends the ability to participate in ECOG to: 
  • Aspirus Regional Cancer Center, Wausau
  • Mercy Hospital, Janesville
  • Dean Clinic, Madison
  • Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, IL
  • Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, Appleton
  • UW Cancer Center Johnson Creek, Johnson Creek
    (a partnership among Fort HealthCare, Watertown Area Health Services and UW Health)

Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)
 
GOG is one of the National Cancer Institute's funded cooperative cancer research groups devoted solely to gynecologic cancer research. The Carbone Cancer Center extends the ability to participate in GOG clinical trials to:

  • Gundersen Lutheran, La Crosse 
Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG)
 
RTOG is one of the National Cancer Institute's funded cooperative cancer research groups devoted solely to radiation therapy research. The Carbone Cancer Center extends the ability to participate in RTOG clinical trials to:

  • FHN Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center, Freeport, IL
  • Michael D. Wachtel Cancer Center at Affinity's Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh
  • UW Cancer Center Johnson Creek, Johnson Creek
    (a partnership among Fort HealthCare, Watertown Area Health Services and UW Health)

Wisconsin Oncology Network (WON)
 
This regional network has been established to allow community health centers to enroll patients in select cancer clinical trials that are open at the Carbone Cancer Center:

William S. Middleton Veteran Administration Hospital
 
The William S. Middleton Veteran Administration Hospital is 120-bed hospital that is connected to the Carbone Cancer Center at the south end of the building. The two hospitals share nuclear medicine and pathology services. Faculty of the UW Medical School form the medical staff of the VA Hospital. House staff and oncology fellows rotate on its services.
 
The VA Hospital provides additional patient resources for clinical trials, clinical training and offers laboratory research opportunities. Carbone Cancer Center members have joint appointments at the VA Hospital and several conduct their research there.
