Message from the Urology Chairman - Dr. Stephen Y. Nakada, MD
I am most delighted to introduce you to the first report of the Department of Urology. Urology became the sixteenth department at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in July 2008. The blend of our new clinical and research programs and our tradition of patient-centered urologic care led to this important designation.
Our department possesses one of the busiest clinical practices in the Midwest, and we provide world-class care for all major urologic diseases. Equally as exciting are our broad and deep research programs, including extramural funding for the treatment of prostate cancer, inflammatory urologic diseases and kidney pathology.
We have recruited some of the best and brightest specialists in all the domains of urology, from urologic cancers to kidney stones, pediatric urology to incontinence and infertility. Notably, we are nationally recognized as a top-tier residency training program in Urology. In addition, we are routinely ranked as one of America's Best Hospitals in Urology by the U.S. News and World Report annual survey. Read more
Yet, patients are the beginning and end of what we do; we measure our success one case at a time. In this Urology Today report, you will read about our key research and clinical programs, and more specifically about how our staff, our patients and our special friends make us what we are today.
I assure you, here in Madison, Wisconsin, we are dedicated to making progress and moving forward.
Stephen Y. Nakada, MD
Chairman, Department of Urology
The David T. Uehling Professor of Urology
