Pancreas transplant at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics has performed more than 1,100 transplant procedures since its inception in 1982, making it one of the largest and most active in the nation.
Because transplant is often necessitated by the onset of diabetes and the resulting kidney failure, simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplant is the most common surgical option.
In certain cases, UW Health patients first undergo a Kidney Transplant, usually from a living donor, and then receive a new pancreas at a later date. In rare instances, our patients receive pancreas transplants without the need for a kidney transplant.
