"My liver transplant to my mom has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I no longer felt helpless with her disease. This was something that I could do for her. My family was very supportive of my decision and this made things so much easier. From the moment I heard about the living liver donor program, my thoughts were, 'I can do this.'
"Like any surgery, there were ups and downs, but I feel that the end result far outweighed any discomfort that I felt. The staff at the University of Wisconsin Hospital was incredibly supportive. They listened, and helped me through my recovery.
"I have been asked numerous times if I would have the surgery again. There never has been a doubt that I would because it made my relationship with my mom even stronger than before. It does my heart good to see her with my son. Without the surgery, I might not have been able to see her face light up whenever he enters the room."
