Heart and Vascular Care

The Thoracic Surgery specialists at UW Health offer comprehensive specialty care for patients with all types of diseases of the chest and upper abdomen. We provide a complete range of services, from initial evaluation and management to highly specialized consultation for rare diseases, new surgical approaches, devices, and technologies.

 

Lung Treatments

  • Robotic, VATS, and open lung resection, including wedge resection, segmentectomy, lobectomy, sleeve resection, and pneumonectomy for lung cancer, lung nodules and other lung diseases
  • Lung transplantation for advanced lung diseases
  • Lung volume reduction surgery for advanced emphysema/COPD
  • VATS and open pleurectomy or mechanical/chemical pleurodesis for recurrent pneumothorax
  • Bronchoscopy (flexible, rigid, navigational, and fluorescence) for diagnosis and treatment of airway and lung diseases

  • Bronchoscopy (flexible, rigid, navigational and fluorescence) for diagnosis and treatment of airway and lung diseases

 

Chest Wall Treatments

  • Minimally-invasive (Nuss procedure) and open (Ravitch procedure) repair for chest wall deformities (pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum)
  • Chest wall resection and reconstruction of chest wall tumors
  • Clavicular head resection for sternoclavicular chronic pain/arthritis and joint infection

Pleura Treatments

  • Extrapleural pneumonectomy and pleurectomy/decortication for mesothelioma
  • VATS and open decortication for empyema
  • VATS pleurectomy, mechanical and chemical pleurodesis, indwelling tunneled pleural catheter placement for benign and malignant pleural effusions

Diaphragm Treatments

  • Robotic, VATS and laparoscopic heller myotomy for achalasia and other esophageal motility disorders
  • Robotic, laparoscopic and open anti-reflux surgery (Nissen, Toupet, Dor) for gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Robotic, laparoscopic and open hiatal hernia and paraesophageal hernia repair
  • Robotic, VATS and laparoscopic esophageal diverticulectomy and myotomy
  • Transoral stapling and open Zenker’s diverticulectomy
