Meet Andy North
Sports Medicine Classic tournament chair Andy North is a former PGA Tour professional with three victories on his résumé.
In addition to his triumph at the 1977 American Express Westchester Classic, Andy twice captured one of the biggest prizes in golf by claiming the 1978 and 1985 United States Open championships. He is one of only 16 people in history to have won at least two U.S. Opens.
Prior to turning pro, Andy won the 1969 Wisconsin Amateur and the 1971 Western Amateur tournaments.
Since retiring from the PGA Tour, Andy has split his time between the Champions Tour, which he joined in 2000, and his duties as a tournament broadcaster for ESPN.
Though injuries have hindered him on the Champions Tour, Andy continued his competitive ways in the U.S. Open by placing eighth in the U.S. Senior Open. His best finish on the Champions Tour is a second place finish in the 2001 Emerald Coast Classic, and he is a staple on ESPN's pre- and post-tournament analysis broadcast teams for the major championships.
The Sports Medicine Classic again wishes to express our sincerest thanks to Andy for providing his support and expertise to our event. He has become a very large part of the tournament and an invaluable member of the Sports Medicine Classic family.
We all wish Andy the best of luck with his professional pursuits.
