Surgical Waiting Area
- Registered nurses from the Operating Room will call the Surgical Waiting Area at the time of the patient's first incision and every two hours thereafter to notify families of progress.
- Families will have the option of having pagers during the daytime, so they can go to the cafeteria, gift shop, etc., and not feel like they must stay in one place during the entire surgery. If the family is away from the Surgical Waiting Area when an update call comes in, staff will page them to ensure they receive information.
- When the Surgical Waiting Area closes, staff will fax a list of pager numbers to the Operating Room staff to provide an easy way for the doctor to locate the family when the surgery is done.
Phones and Computers
Additionally, free local telephone calls and long distance calls using credit cards can be placed from the Surgical Waiting Area. Several data jacks are also available so families can plug in their personal laptop computers.
