The Power2 Approach

Our Facility and Technology

UW Health Sports Medicine's Power2 Athletic Performance is an athletic training and sports performance program that utilizes scientifically-supported and proven techniques to improve an athlete's strength, speed, power, agility and balance.
  • STRENGTH is the ability to produce force and is the foundation of all athletic skills. Stronger athletes are less susceptible to injury and recover faster than their weaker counterparts.
  • SPEED is a trainable skill. Sprinting with better technique, longer strides and faster foot speed will decrease your 40-yard dash time and make you a faster athlete on the field.
  • POWER drives athletic success. Power is the ability to produce force fast. In the world of sports, power creates opportunities.
  • AGILITY is arguably the most important performance skill in all team sports. Simply defined, agility is the ability to decelerate, change direction and accelerate.
  • BALANCE is paramount in reducing the risk of injury and improving change of direction ability.
Mission

It is the mission of the UW Health Athletic Performance program to develop the athlete's mind as well as body. With an educationally-based curriculum, athletes will learn about proper body movement (kinesiology) and physical development (anatomy and physiology) while improving their athletic ability. We believe that athletes who understand why they are training are more likely to train with proper intent and can carry that knowledge with them through life.

Power2 Difference

While many "mythologies" of training currently exist, UW Health Athletic Performance utilizes scientifically-supported and proven methods to help athletes gain that competitive edge. Our coaches hold degrees in the exercise sciences and are certified strength and conditioning specialists with years of experience coaching athletes of all ages.

Utilizing a progressive and periodized approach to training, the primary physical emphases are in the development of strength, speed, power, agility and balance. However, it is difficult to effectively develop these primary athletic traits without first building a base of athletic ability: mobility, coordination, endurance, stability, and technical skill.

Training with UW Health's Athletic Performance Program, athletes are assured to receive the proper combination of athletic skills training to optimize their ability.
