Applicant Qualifications

Application to University of Wisconsin Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs is handled by individual programs. Details are available from the Web sites of the individual programs.

Generally, applicants for appointments at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics must be graduates of medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. Students applying for first-year positions are required to register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Exceptionally qualified graduates of foreign medical schools are eligible for appointment, provided they have been certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Wisconsin licensure is required of all house officers who have completed one year of approved post-graduate training in the United States or Canada.
