30-day Surgical Mortality - Ventricular Assist Devices
n 2008, UW Hospital and Clinics received certification for its Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) program. The use of these heart pumps offers hope to patients with end-stage heart failure. For some patients, these pumps can be a permanent replacement pump. For others, the device is a bridge, carrying patients until their heart heals or a transplant is available.
The graph below shows 30-day surgical mortality rates for patients who have received ventricular assist devices.
