30-day Surgical Mortality Rate (All Major Cardiac Surgery Procedures)

Mortality is an important outcome measure of a program's quality. The following data show 30-day operative mortality – patient survival from the day of surgery up to 30 days after surgery. When compared to like hospitals and the entire STS (Society of Thoracic Surgeons) database, significantly more cardiac surgery patients survive their surgery and hospital stays at UW Hospital and Clinics.

Note: Lower percentages indicate higher survival rates.

About the Quality Data

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) database allows benchmarking of outcomes against similar programs in the United States at institutions that participate in the STS database. The data included here are replicated from the Data Analyses of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Adult Cardiac Surgery Database for the period ending December 31, 2007.
