Upper Extremity Splinting and Serial Casting

Referrals are made for evaluation to determine pediatric hand splint appropriateness, as well as for splint fitting or modifications.

• Pediatric Occupational Therapy provides neoprene and low-temperature thermoplastic splints.
• Splinting can provide prolonged stretch to muscles and soft tissue structures.
• Splinting is also used to protect joint structures, enhance biomechanical alignment and provide stability during functional activities.
• Serial casting to improve ROM in shortened muscles of upper extremity.
• Casts may need to be applied in succession until the desired functional joint ROM is achieved.
