Children with autistic spectrum disorders (ADS) have impairments of social interaction, impairments of verbal and nonverbal communication and restricted, repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities.

Children’s language skills can range from nonverbal to highly verbal but with restricted topics. Improvements in communication of children with ADS have been found to prevent problem behaviors.

Our specialized staff provides evaluation and treatment of receptive, expressive and pragmatic language skills. Staff members are skilled in identifying other behavior characteristics of children with ADS. Treatment programs focus on communicative intent, social communication skills and pragmatic language.

Visual schedules are usually provided to help with transitions during therapy. Family member and therapists from community programs are involved in the treatment sessions for generalization of language and social skills to home and school. Therapy may last from a few months to a year.
