About Outlook Life
In 1998, a joint collaboration between the University of Wisconsin's Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Clinic, UW Health Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Program and UW School of Medicine and Public Health Biomedical Computing group resulted in the first online resource to address the long-term issues of childhood cancer survivors. Called "Outlook", the website provided an innovative and unique resource that addressed the issues of childhood cancer survivors, provided information and support to families and professionals and helped to build a bridge of support between current patients and survivors.
The project was designed, managed and guided by survivors of childhood cancer in conjunction with a team of experts in pediatric oncology, nursing, social work, cancer information, psychology and web design and programming. It was the first website of its kind and won the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Excellence in Cancer Patient Education Award for Electronic Media in 2000.
The Outlook site has entered a new phase in its evolution coming under the umbrella of the UW Health.
