Fulfilling a Promise: The Carney Family

 

Max Carney remembers the day he made a promise to his older sister Crystal 24 years ago. She was lying in a hospital bed, stricken with a relapse of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Crystal was only 23 years old. Since he couldn't switch places with her, he would do whatever he could to help find a cure. In 2011 he returned to the UW Carbone Cancer Center to do just that. Dave Ferweda Getting Back to What He Loves After Being Mauled by a Cow

 

It was a typical spring day for farmer Dave Ferweda the began by feeding the cattle, and preparing to do chores on the farm he's owned from more than 60 years. Little did he expect he would end the day being saved by his faithful cattle dog, Hannah, when a Black Angus cow began mauling him. For Dave, the support of neighbors, friends, and his medical care team, helped him get back to doing what he loves. Watch the video

A serious injury during a snowmobile race left Erika Rau with a severely damaged aorta and a fractured neck. She was rushed to UW Hospital and Clinics. Within hours after surgery to repair her heart, she was already planning to get back to racing. Watch her story
