OPO Mission

As a hospital-based program, the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Organ Procurement Organization dedicates its efforts to educating health care professionals and the community on the critical need for organ donation.

Inherent in this mission is our continual goal - to increase organ donation by building relationships and advancing the field of organ recovery.

Volunteer Opportunities

Education is the key to increasing organ donation awareness and making life-saving transplants possible. UW Hospital and Clinics OPO volunteer program is designed to create a network of advocates in our communities that will help increase public awareness of organ donation. Volunteers help the OPO give talks to various groups, staff displays at health fairs and enroll workplace partners.

How You Can Help

As a donor family or a transplant recipient, you are in a unique position to help spread the word about donation. You can volunteer to help us educate the public and answer questions that deter people from supporting organ donation.

The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Organ Procurement Organization (UWHC OPO) has formed a network of volunteers for this specific purpose. This network started because we believe one effective way for us to educate people is by having donor families and recipients volunteer to tell their personal stories to others.

This gives the general public a better understanding of what donation and transplantation is all about. By incorporating current statistics and facts about donation into a personal experience, we can communicate the "gift of life" that organ donation offers.
