Spotlight on Life Gala: A Winning Event
Attendees and dancers enjoyed a wonderful evening at the 2011 Spotlight on Life Gala on Saturday, January 29. The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin (NKFW) hosted the event, held at the InterContinental Milwaukee.
Modeled after the popular television show "Dancing with the Stars," seven local health care executives and doctors participated in a ballroom dance competition with professionally trained partners from Fred Astaire Dance Studios. They danced to support organ donation, and to promote awareness of the new donor registry.
Tony D'Alessandro, MD, UW Health transplant surgeon, danced the Paso Doble and Donna Katen-Bahensky, UW Hospital President and CEO, danced the Tango. Dr. D'Alessandro won second place in the competition.
While the voting for dancers has closed, members of the community are still encouraged to get involved. Anyone who makes a $39 donation at www.spotlightonlife.org will receive a certificate for a free dance lesson at any of the Wisconsin Fred Astaire Dance Studios, valued at $80.
