Let's Meet: The Newest Staff Members at the UW Health OPO
Heidi Hinners, Student Assistant
Heidi joined the UW Health Organ Procurment Organization (OPO) in October to utilize her talents to assist the busy UW Health OPO team. She is currently a student at University of Wisconsin-Madison pursuing a degree in Business Management. Heidi enjoys interacting with people and learning everything she can about organ donation. Heidi, who is from Middleton, Wisconsin, is a talented golfer who played for three years on the University of Wisconsin women's golf team.
Kathleen Johnson, Organ Procurement Coordinator
Kathleen joined the UW Health OPO from the UW Hospital respiratory care department where she worked as a registered respiratory therapist for four years. Prior to joining the OPO Kathleen enjoyed 18 years in the restaurant business, during which time she raised two children, now grown and on their own. She enjoys spending her spare time exercising (racquetball is her sport of choice and her passion) and riding her motorcycle, but stays very busy raising her three-year-old daughter.
Wendy Mardak, Grant Specialist
Wendy was a stay-at-home Mom to her two daughters, Olivia (8) and Sofia (5), for seven years before joining the OPO in September as part of the two-year HRSA grant project entitled AMA Saves Lives. The project is the most extensive to date, targeting university students, and specifically those involved in student organizations. Through social media and viral marketing, AMA Saves Lives focuses on the development of a replicable model for increasing organ donor registry enrollment by university students, their families and their friends. Wendy shares that she is honored to be a part of the organ procurement community and particularly the UW Health OPO team. She describes her job as one of the most rewarding she has ever had and hopes to remain a part of the nation's organ donation efforts for many years to come.
Matt Wingler, Procurement Coordinator
Matt joined the UW Health OPO with seven years of experience in the field of organ donation. His previous positions include being a coordinator with Wisconsin Donor Network in Milwaukee and work with Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network in Illinois. When not working, Matt is very passionate about motorcycles. He enjoys spending time riding and also likes to educate the public about motorcycle safety and awareness.
