Donor dotGet ready everyone. We're about to embark on the busiest, most energized year in the history of organ donation in Wisconsin.

Near April, Donate Life Wisconsin will be launching our state's first ever online donor registry, and then during the summer we will host the 2010 National Kidney Foundation U.S. Transplant Games® in Madison from July 30-August 4.

The Wisconsin donor registry is a new, secure online tool that allows Wisconsin residents to make a record of anatomical gift by choosing to be an organ, tissue and eye donor. Because this online system preserves the opportunity to maximize the potential for donation for every registered donor, the 46 states that already have online donation registries have witnessed an increase in the number of organs, tissue and corneas made available for transplantation.

Although Wisconsin is already a well-respected donation community, we are excited to embrace the potential to save and improve even more of our family, friends and neighbor's lives. More information on the new registry will be shared in 2010.

More than 7,500 transplant recipients, donor family members, living donors, transplant professionals and many families and friends will attend the Games. The Olympic-style event includes 13 athletic competitions, opening and closing ceremonies and special ceremonies to honor donors and their families, as well as living donors, from around the country.

A 5K run/walk in support of organ, eye and tissue donation will be held on Saturday morning, July 31 in downtown Madison. The run/walk is open to the public and registration information, along with information about volunteering at the Games, will be available shortly after the first of the year. This event will be held annually to help fund the new donor registry and also to fund state-wide donation education efforts.

Sponsorships are available for companies and organizations that would like to help support the Games. Both financial and in-kind sponsorships are available, as well as a wide range of volunteering opportunities, allowing your business or organization to get involved and help to make this a truly special event.
