How Much Sugar Is In Your Drink
A recent report from the American Heart Association encouraged Americans to reduce their daily sugar intake. According to the recommendation, adult women should consume 6 teaspoons or less, approximately 24 grams, of added sugar a day. For men that number should only be 9 teaspoons, or 36 grams, or less of added sugar a day.
When you stop to consider the amount of sugar in commonly consumed beverages, such as chocolate milke or soda, it is possible to reach the daily recommendation simply by drinking one beverage.
Through the following video, UW Health registered dietitian Cassie Vanderwall demonstrates how much sugar is actually in commonly consumed beverages such as sweet tea, juice and smoothies, and encourages viewers to consider alternatives such as water or low-fat dairy products.
