Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research
 
When scientists began moving into the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR) last fall, they knew they were entering into a completely new way of conducting biomedical research.
 
The facility will foster close collaboration between researchers, scientists and physicians, helping to bring treatments more quickly from the laboratory to the bedside.
 
 
 
 
Kate Lafferty, a certified vet tech at the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, brings Rosie, a Labrador retriever, back from an ultrasound recheck for a mast cell tumor.
 
Cancer is common in companion animals. Many patients at the UW Veterinary School are enrolled in clinical trials seeking new and innovative therapies. Therapies that will translate into human care.

Andres Sousa, medical assistant, checks Hans Bernet's weight during a routine visit. Hans has always been active so he tries not to let non-Hodgkins lymphoma slow him down. After a novel treatment, he remains in remission and optimistic about his long-term prognosis.
