Wisconsin's First Lady to Appear at Children's Hospital Library Opening
MADISON - Jessica Doyle, wife of Gov. Jim Doyle, is scheduled to visit American Family Children's Hospital on December 1, to introduce the opening of the new Inpatient Reading Library on the hospital's fifth floor.
Mrs. Doyle will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, donate books to the library, and read to patients and their families. Activities begin at 10am.
Dipesh Navsaria, MD, a pediatrician and instructor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, has been an advocate for initiatives that encourage parents to read to children.
"Sharing books is one of the most important things a family can do together," he says. "It builds vocabulary and cognitive skills, and allows for a quiet togetherness in the often hectic lives of families. A child who grows up with books will be a child ready to take advantage of all that school has to offer him or her."
A former school teacher, Mrs. Doyle has been an avid supporter of programs to improve the education of Wisconsin children.
American Girl and Mattel are also donating books and providing financial support for the library.
