Wisconsin Dance Marathon Raises $56,000

Wisconsin Dance Marathon logoMADISON — Hundreds of avid dancers, who stayed on their feet and kept their legs moving for twelve hours straight, saw their efforts pay off in UW's first ever dance marathon last weekend.

The event, held Friday night and Saturday morning at The Shell near Camp Randall Stadium, generated more than $56,000 for the American Family Children’s Hospital.

The dancing, which began 9pm Friday and continued until 9am the next morning, attracted more than 300 participants, many of them students who went door-to-door to raise pledges. The evening included up-beat music, live entertainment by local bands and dance lessons.

"I was fortunate to experience firsthand the leadership, enthusiasm and enormous talent of the students," said Jeff Poltawsky, vice president for the American Family Children's Hospital. "In their first year, they exceeded all expectations, having raised more donations than any other Big Ten school in their first dance marathon."

"These students are shining examples of the future, and their passion to help sick and injured children by supporting world-class pediatrics and family-centered care at American Family Children's Hospital is extraordinary," Poltawsky added.
