The Clinical Centers of Excellence in Pain Management Awards recognize professionals and institutions who provide top-quality clinical care in pain management. The prestigious award honors excellence in providing care that is patient-centered, state-of-the-art, evidence-based, cost-conscious, culturally appropriate, and safe.
"We provide the highest quality care we can, based on science and a lot of compassion," said Dr. Nathan J. Rudin, medical director, UW Pain Treatment and Research Center. "Nationally, leading centers are proving that combining various kinds of treatment is the most effective way to treat pain. The University of Wisconsin has championed this model for many years, and we are delighted to be recognized for our efforts."
UW Health was specifically recognized for improvements in quality and outcome assessment for patients. The institution continuously tracks patient satisfaction, hospital and clinic safety and adherence to evidence-based practice.
Ongoing quality improvement projects help providers solve problems quickly and adapt rapidly to changing needs. UW practitioners also make an effort to use foreign languages and culture-specific ways to address pain for minority patients.
The APS, based in Glenview, Illinois, brings together scientists, clinicians and other professionals with the goal of better understanding pain and the ways to treat it.
