UW Health's Gastroenterology Division Earns Prestigious Award
Madison, Wisconsin - The division of gastroenterology and hepatology at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics has earned a prestigious award for its safe and efficient use of endoscopic procedures.
The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) recognized UW for its efficiency in quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, the use of infection control guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Protection, supervision and training of staff and polyp detection rate.
Endoscopes include high-intensity lighting and fitted precision devices used for colonoscopies and other procedures involving the gastrointestinal system.
"This honor means our patients are receiving their procedures at a high-quality unit that recognizes quality assurance, safety and quality improvement in all technical aspects of performing endoscopic procedures," said Dr. Deepak Gopal, associate professor of medicine (gastroenterology) at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. "We are leading the way in Wisconsin to ensure that our patients receive best standard of care, excellence and expertise."
Approximately 13,000 endoscopic procedures a year are done at UW Hospital and Clinics.
