UW Carbone Cancer Center physician Brad KahlMADISON - A University of Wisconsin cancer researcher has been appointed as chairman of the lymphoma committee for a prestigious coalition of cancer centers.

Dr. Brad Kahl (pictured), associate professor of medicine at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), will lead lymphoma committee for the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), a federally-funded network of researchers, physicians and health care professionals that designs and carries out clinical trials for cancer research.

"This is a great honor," said Kahl, who is associate director of research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and head of the UW Lymphoma Program. "In this role, I will have the opportunity to shape the direction of lymphoma research on a national level. I look forward to bringing the very best doctors and scientists together to accelerate research and make a difference for our patients."

Currently, the ECOG has more than 90 active clinical trials in a variety of cancers.
