MADISON - He got a liver. He gave back 302 pumpkins.Fennimore's Denny Freymiller and three fellow townsmen pulled up to American Family Children's Hospital with early Halloween gifts for young patients - 302 pumpkins. (The original tally was 306, but four pumpkins were damaged on the drive.)
Freymiller usually keeps a pumpkin patch of his own but his health concerns prevented him from doing so this year. The pumpkins he gave to American Family Children's Hospital were donated or purchased by Freymiller.
Freymiller received a liver transplant at UW Hospital and Clinics this past June. The pumpkin delivery was a gesture of appreciation to UW Health staff, and it also let him get in a word in support of organ donation.
"It's important to get that little dot on your driver's license," he said. "I'm living proof of that. (And now) I can put smiles on the children's faces and also put a spotlight on the transplant department."
