MADISON - Riding a bicycle for two days and holding a flag football tournament have helped raise $12,000 for American Family Children's Hospital.
Sigma Phi Epsilon, a fraternity on the UW-Madison campus, raised the money through its 17th annual Tour De Touchdown in which 14 fraternity members rode a bicycle relay style from Madison to Iowa City, Iowa before the Oct. 23 Badger football game. During the ride, they carried a football autographed by head coach Bret Bielema.
In early November, they also sponsored a powder-puff football tournament involving UW-Madison sororities, and generated money from T-shirt sales and entry fees by participating teams.
The money raised from these events will support the hospital's Child Life programs, which include games and activities that help relieve the stress of hospitalization for patients and their families.
